Steve Nash was brought up in a family of sportsmen and he excelled in a variety of sports. He enjoyed an outstanding high school basketball career, but garnered no attention from US college recruiters as he was based in Canada. He was eventually recruited by Santa Clara University head coach Dick Davey, and in Nash's four seasons with the Broncos, the team made three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) appearances.
